Keys on the Counter

Now that our daughters Megan and Erin have grown, the house has matured too. Where there used to be Barbie dolls, Mini Whinnies, stuffed animals, and treasures of books to be read to little listeners, now those things are memories to be treasured.

A couple years ago, I noticed Megan and my son-in-law Tanner’s keys on the counter; it provided a warm reminder of how quickly our children grow and yet how some things remain unchanged. Tanner still liked Iron Man and Megan still had her favorite Disney princess, evidenced by the diorama momentarily displayed on the kitchen counter.

Flash forward to this morning. As I laid down my Bible and picked up my pen, I pondered. My thoughts ventured from Leviticus and meandered down a discrete bunny trail as I journaled:

Superheroes wear a mask.

We, however, have a new identity in Christ.

Nothing hidden.

No unforeseen thing.

We are not of the world.

Our identity is hidden in Christ Jesus.

That’s the hidden thing. The thing on the inside.

It’s not on the outside, like a mask or cape identifies a superhero.

It’s how you’re marked on the inside that shows on the outside.

2 Corinthians 3:2-3 puts it this way, “You are our epistle written in our hearts, known and read by all men; clearly you are an epistle of Christ, ministered by us, written not with ink but by the Spirit of the living God, not on tablets of stone but on tablets of flesh, that is, of the heart.”

Your heart identifies whose you are and to whom you belong. Your true nature is created in God’s image and His likeness. If anything, we need to take off our mask and remove the hidden things. Let people see something different in us.

Knowing your true identity unveils your authority that you have in Christ. As ambassadors of Christ representing His Kingdom here on earth, we live from our eternal inheritance and operate from that place.

A place of:

Abundance.

Love.

Sound mind.

Structure and stability.

Family.

Power.

1 Peter 2:9-10 describes each believer as a chosen vessel, royal priesthood, holy nation, God’s possession, and called from darkness.

In Romans 8:14:17 the word declares that “For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, these are the sons of God.” This is underscored in Romans 8:17 that says we are joint heirs with Christ.

Therefore, bring Christ in you, not you. For he that is in you is greater than he that is in the world (1 John 4:4).

Be a Kingdom influencer.

Model the image and the Presence of Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Be a hero.
