The Power of Seeing as God Sees
The power to see as God sees is the power of vision. The Word places a lot of importance on vision. Habakuk 2:2 (NKJV) states that, “Write the vision and make it plain on tablets, that he may run that reads it.” Also, “Where there is no vision, the people perish (Proverbs 29:18 KJV).”
If you want to partner with God, you need to have a vision to see as He sees. He has a vision to align you for Kingdom work. To utilize you to do the things that you were created to do, because your vision is tied to God’s purposes that He has ordained. And His express plans and purposes are going to be greater than what you can even imagine. That’s why you need to see as He sees. To see not only yourself, but others through His eyes.
In 1 Samuel 16:7 (NIV) it states, But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people look at. People look at the outward appearance, but the Lord looks at the heart.” This is an excellent example of how to practice seeing as God sees. It indicates that you have to go deeper. Don’t immediately put stock in what you are seeing on the surface.
Also, acknowledge that there is power in seeing as God sees. When you partner with Him, you’re absolutely going to see things in a greater capacity. Greater revelation. Greater vision. What you see through a spiritual lens, the Father’s eyes, will bring clarity and focus to especially see people in a different light. Even yourself. Don’t limit your vision to what you see in the natural. Pray to see with a spiritual depth and acuity.
In high school I went out for cross country. At one particular practice we were catching our breath under the railroad trestle west of town, recovering from yet another quarter mile trek up and down Dahms’ hill. Too soon Coach Wiges would signal for us to run back up the hill. However, before blowing his whistle, he smiled broadly and said, “I think we can win state this year.” That got our full attention. What an incredulous thing to say. We were a small team, from a small town. What a ridiculous notion. But running back up Dahms’ hill I dared to think, what if?
Coach painted a vision of something that was not even in our spectrum of sight. That’s exactly what coming in agreement with God can do. He can birth a vision outside the ordinary to take you higher.
But be prepared to face challenges.
How, you ask?
Paul writes in 2 Corinthians 10:5 (NKJV), “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ.” Whatever is good or bad, it all starts as a thought. As a man thinks, so is he (Proverbs 23:7). The same can be said, where the mind goes the body follows. That’s why it’s so important to wear the helmet of salvation, so you’re protected in your thought life.
Pervasive thoughts can be a spiritual stronghold. However, by practice seeing how God sees, you will experience greater. Afterall, we go from glory to glory 2 Corinthians 3:18 teaches us.
Consider Peter. He kept his sight on Jesus, and his faith steps enabled him to place his feet where no man before or since have walked. But he lost sight of the vision in front of him, and he began to sink.
So, you ask, how can I see like God?
Be like a child. Have faith like a child.
We are exhorted to be imitators of God according to Ephesians 5:1 which says, “Therefore be imitators of God as dear children.”
Without the relevance of vision, you’re going to miss opportunity. Opportunity to serve. Opportunity to exercise your spiritual gifts. Opportunity to be a part of someone else experiencing their breakthrough. Don’t miss out. Allow God to paint a vision for your personal walk with Him. Ask Him to give you eyes to see others from His perspective. And see where it takes you.
That afternoon at practice Coach Wiges planted a vision for our seven-member team. It was watered and nurtured. And that season we did win the 1979 Class 1A Iowa Girls State Cross Country Championship.
How much more will you reap from the vision God plants in you?
